Spanish-speaking gay therapist for LGBTQ+ men living abroad

You are in New York, London, Berlin or somewhere else, and the day was fine until a family voice note lands, or a date asks what you really want. You can explain your life in English, but some things only land in Spanish. If you are looking for a Spanish-speaking gay therapist who understands both the LGBTQ+ world and the cultural code you grew up with, we can work online, in Spanish or English.

Does this sound familiar?

When you are out in one language but not quite in another

01

You live in a city where being gay is legal and visible, but you still feel like the outsider in the room.

02

You can talk about work, rent and visas in English, yet the moment you need to talk about shame, family or desire, your body wants Spanish.

03

You miss the humour, the irony and the shortcuts of your own culture, and you are tired of translating yourself for therapists who do not get it.

04

You are out to friends abroad but not to family back home, or you are out to everyone and still feel alone in LGBTQ+ spaces.

05

Dating across languages is exciting and exhausting, because you want intimacy without having to teach someone your whole history first.

06

You have tried therapy before and spent half the session explaining what it means to be gay or bisexual in your family, your country or your community.

✶

Coming out again in a new country

If you came out years ago, moving country can make it feel like you are doing it again, with new colleagues, new apps and new rules. We can look at what you want to keep, what you want to leave, and how to feel at home in your own skin.

✶

Dating, desire and intimacy without shame

Shame often travels with us even when the laws change. We can slow down the stories you learned about gay sex, desire and being too much or not enough, and build a relationship with intimacy that feels yours.

✶

Family, distance and cultural expectations

Calls home can be loving and complicated. We can work on boundaries, guilt, silence, and the pressure to be the successful one who never causes trouble.

✶

Belonging in LGBTQ+ spaces when language sets you apart

LGBTQ+ spaces are not always easy when you are the one with an accent, a different passport or a different way of moving. We can talk about racism, exclusion and the exhaustion of trying to fit in twice.

✶

Anxiety, loneliness and the pressure to perform

Anxiety, loneliness and the need to perform calm can follow you across borders. We can look at when that happens and what you do next.

✶

Relationships, sex and the agreements you actually want

Single, dating or in a couple, we can talk about desire, jealousy, open or closed agreements and what you actually want, so the rules you live by are yours and not borrowed from someone else.

How it works

How to start

1

Send a WhatsApp message

You do not need a long email or a perfect explanation. Send a message and tell me a little about what is bringing you to therapy now.

2

Agree a time that works

I reply and we look for a slot that fits your time zone, even if that means early morning in New York or late evening in Berlin.

3

Book your first online session

If we decide to continue, we schedule your first online session. I work online, so you can join from wherever you live, as long as you have privacy and a stable connection.

4

See if the fit feels right

In the first sessions we talk about what brought you to therapy and how we might work on it. You can speak Spanish, English, or move between both.

About me

Mariano Ventura Barreira

Psychologist · Licence M-36402 · LGBTQ+ Affirmative Therapy

Spanish is my first language, and I work online with adults who want therapy in Spanish or English, wherever they are living. I am a psychologist, licence M-36402.

My practice is affirmative LGBTQ+ therapy. That means I do not see your sexual orientation or gender identity as something to correct, and I do not ask you to educate me about your life before we can begin.

Because I work online, you can be in the USA, the UK, another part of Europe, or moving between countries, and keep seeing the same psychologist, in your own language.

FAQ

Starting online therapy from another country

Yes. I am a Spanish-speaking gay therapist and I work online with people in different countries. Sessions can be in Spanish, English, or a mix of both, depending on what feels most useful to you.

It can work well when we find a regular time that fits your life. We agree on a slot that respects your time zone, and we review it if your schedule changes because of work, travel or family.

Many people find online sessions easier to keep consistent, especially when they move or live far from LGBTQ+ friendly cities. It is not a fit for everyone, so the first conversation is a chance to check whether it makes sense for you.

I work with gay, bisexual and LGBTQ+ adults, including expats and people who live between cultures. The affirmative frame is central, and your identity is part of the work, not a problem to be solved.
